It’s been a busy summer. But it’s not over yet.
- The 21-year old accused of firebombing a police car lot in Bushwick earlier this summer appeared in court last month, though his supporters don’t seem to get along with Post reporters or cops. (Jakhi Lodgson McCray, hit with criminal mischief charges over allegedly setting some 11 NYPD cars on fire, is being represented by the legendary lawyer Ron Kuby, who was once shouted out in the Big Lebowski.)
- Speaking of things blowing up, footage taken from a series of manhole explosions on Central Avenue in Bushwick has been going viral around the world, after an anonymous local uploaded it onto the app Citizen, which was then packaged into a video clip by the Daily Mail, eventually capturing the attention of the trend aggregators at the Indian Express.
- Over in Astoria last month, protestors wearing MAGA hats and waving Israeli flags staged a showdown with a group called Italians for Zohran over celebrating Columbus Day. The way forward: celebrating Danny DeVito, as the pro-Zohran group chanted, per a report in the New York Groove.
- Avant Gardener, which operates Brooklyn Mirage, has declared bankruptcy, a turning point in a long, twisted saga that included political intrigue, fears of a possible serial killer and a grand reopening set for this past May, which never happened.
- The New York Times has published least 32 articles about Zohran Mamdani and the phrase “globalize the intifada,” according to a count by the blogger Adam Johnson. This is more stories than the country’s paper of record published during the same period “about Gaza Humanitarian Foundation aid site killings, starvation in Gaza, child amputees in Gaza, a July 2025 Amnesty International’s Report on Israel using ‘aid’ to facilitate genocide, the February 2024 Flour Massacre, and the January 2024 killing of Hind Rajab combined,” Johnson writes. Last month, people started throwing red paint at the Times‘ headquarters.
- A Hell Gate reporter managed to eavesdrop on ICE agents downtown, and even they tend to compare Stephen Miller to the devil.
- Speaking of ICE, “Border Tzar” Tom Homan promised last month to “flood” New York City with ICE agents.
- Back in Bushwick, Gothamist interviewed Gio Luciano, a line cook who works at La Cantine on St. Nicholas Avenue, after he went viral on TikTok, indicating that Gen Z may be lost in a hall of mirrors.
