After shuttering last December for “a light remodel” and “long-needed repairs,” Father Knows Best (611A Wilson Ave.) is set to reopen under new management, per a liquor license application filed by Valora Restaurant Group.

The paperwork indicates they’ll be doing business under the Father Knows Best name. Per a recent Community Board 4 meeting, Valora is co-owned by Nik Barricelli, who operates the bar Doublé (1332 Halsey St.). A representative from Mad Man Hospitality, the parent company of Doublé, said Father Knows Best is slated to reopen in February 2027.

Barricelli called Father’s a “huge part of the community.” He added that the bar’s future operating hours will be 8 a.m. to midnight, Sunday through Thursday, with closing hours extending until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturdays.

Father Knows Best was once run by Golden Pig Hospitality, a partnership of Richard Rossmassler and Chris Taha. Golden Pig also opened nearby Vietnamese restaurant Money Cat (554 Wilson Ave.), which they later sold to Yongdeok Jo. Taha has since moved on to run Leon’s Bagels, which has three locations in Manhattan and an outpost in Williamsburg.

Like Golden Pig before them, Mad Man announced another expansion at the October community baord meeting. Barricelli is also in contract to purchase Marco’s (1071 Broadway) off the Kosciuszko J. After opening Doublé in 2022, Barricelli & co. is set to own three Bushwick bars by the end of 2026.

Father Knows Best was an early manifestation of gentrification around the far-out Wilson L stop. It opened the same year as nightlife institution Nowadays (56-06 Cooper Ave.), and helped lay a cultural groundwork for later additions like queer nightlife space Purgatory (675 Central Ave.) and JPMorgan Chase’s Infatuation-worthy restaurant They Say That (615 Wilson Ave.), which opened this year.

During the Community Board 4 meeting, Baricelli faced minimal pushback over nightlife oversaturation along Wilson Ave., though the team behind the bar revival failed to gather signatures for Father Knows Best’s liquor application. Doublé did not respond to a request to confirm the opening date.
