In recent months, alternative programming at Alex Neuhausen and Lillly Wolfson’s newish club SILO has been moving beyond the dance floor to include a singles mixers put on the by the New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, a comedy roast aimed at the political campaign of a disgraced former governor and, this past weekend, the converted hanger on Scott Avenue was the latest home of “Club Video,” a showcase of comedy videos that Whitley Watson and Micah Phillips have been putting on in various spots in and about Brooklyn since 2021.“Though they have relocated to a more formal venue, it’s still got those warehouse vibes from the original Club Video that you know and love,” reads a listing on a local comedy site. The show’s alt-Brooklyn charm remained abundant, as the dance floor was filled with metal chairs and poppers and zyns were gamely handed out by Marshall Louise, a local actor who helps produce the shows, which code more “midnight movie” than film festival shorts program. But shorts they are: all sub-three minute fare; vaguely Adult Swim-esque videos that run the gamut from surreal vignettes shot around the corner to a presentation listing the alma matter of various unpopular political figures, soundtracked to the ‘70s punk record “Rich Kids.” So true. I seem to recall an extended commercial for something called “Seamless for self-harm.” And so on.
